„ ■ MLB: Jim “Mudcat” Grant, t he first Black 20-game winner in the American League and a key part of the Twins’ first World Series team in 1965, has died. He was 85. The Twins announced Grant’s death Saturday. No cause was given. Grant’s personal assistant, on behalf of the former right-hander ’s family, informed the Twins of the death. Grant spent less than four full seasons of his 14-year major league career with the Twins, but they were by far his best.

„■ Brewers: Reliever Hunter Strickland is switching teams again as the Brewers attempt to see if he can regain his early-season form. The Brewers announced Saturday they have acquired Strickland from the Angels for cash. ... Christian Yelich hit a threerun double during a fiverun fourth inning and the Brewers beat the Pirates 7-4 on Saturday.

„ ■ Yankees: Yankees righthande­r Luis Severino was removed from a minor league rehab start Saturday with what appeared to be a painful injury to his right leg. Severino was making his second rehab start following Tommy John surgery in February of 2020, pitching for High A Hudson Valley against Brooklyn.

„ ■ Mets: Marcus Stroman pitched one-run ball into the seventh inning, Francisco Lindor hit an early two-run homer and the Mets beat the slumping Padres 4-1 Saturday. Stroman pitched 6 ⅓ innings, allowing six hits and walking one while tying a season high with eight strikeouts.

„ ■ Nationals: Erick Fedde returned after nearly a month on the COVID-19 injured list and pitched five sharp innings, Kyle Schwarber hit a leadoff homer and the Nationals beat the Giants 2-0 Saturday to open a doublehead­er.

„ ■ Athletics: Matt Olson had four hits, including his 16th home run, and the Athletics roughed up Royals rookie Jackson Kowar in romping past the Royals 11-2 on Saturday. Matt Chapman also connected and drove in three runs. Skye Bolt added his first career home run as the A’s improved to 11-2 against teams from the AL Central.

„ ■ Rays: Joey Wendle hit an RBI double during a threerun first inning and the AL East-leading Rays handed the Orioles their record-setting 14th consecutiv­e road loss, 5-4 on Saturday. It is the longest skid since team moved from St. Louis to Baltimore in 1954. The O’s dropped 13 straight on the road in 2018 and also in 1988.

„ ■ Marlins: Zach Thompson pitched five scoreless inning and earned his first major league win, leading the Marlins to a 4-2 victory over the Braves on Saturday. Adam Duvall and Lewin Díaz hit solo homers for the Marlins, which won its third straight overall and second straight over the Braves to claim its first home series against the Braves since Oct. 1, 2017.

„ ■ Reds: Wade Miley delivered on the mound and at the plate, Joey Votto had a go-ahead two-run single in the third inning and the Reds beat the slumping Rockies 10-3 Saturday. Tyler Naquin had three hits and Miley was one of four Reds with two, including Nick Castellano­s, who went into the game leading the majors in hitting at .362 and the National League in slugging percentage at .638.

„ ■ Angels: Anthony Rendon homered and drove in four runs, and the Angels rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Diamondbac­ks 8-7 on Saturday. The win moved the Angels to .500 for the first time since May 2.
