Motorists can expect road construction projects
Work on Indiana 2 will last from Monday through October in different phases
Porter County motorists may want to avoid one of the county’s highways for much of this year.
Parts of Indiana 2 between Valparaiso and Hebron will be closed to traffic from Monday through October for several road projects, the Indiana Department of Transportation has announced.
The work begins Monday at the Indiana 2 intersection with Horseprairie Avenue and Smoke Road, which will be closed through early June for an intersection improvement project.
After that project is completed, the work on Indiana 2 will move north to the bridge over Sager Run, just south of U.S. 30, starting around June 8. A box culvert will be replaced there, and the work is expected to take about six to eight weeks.
After that, Indiana 2 will be closed over Wolf Creek, between County Roads 500 West and 450 West, for another box culvert replacement that will take about eight weeks.
Meanwhile, an INDOT contractor will be resurfacing Indiana 2 between U.S. 30 in Valparaiso and U.S. 231 in Hebron between early June and late October.
Flaggers will direct traffic where resurfacing work is occurring, and the contractor could halt traffic for up to 20 minutes at a time. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes while the work is going on.
The official detour for the Indiana 2 work goes along U.S. 30, Indiana 49 and Indiana 8.
