I am lucky enough to be a retired teacher. I have sat in a dark, small area with your children HOPING the silence doesn’t end. I have heard the sound of a door handle being jiggled, not knowing if it was an administrator or a person with a gun. Honor those who will never retire or graduate from elementary, middle or high school by NOT voting a straight party ticket. Vote for those that say we have a mental illness problem AND back legislation to IMPROVE mental illness. Vote for those that say we need gun control AND back legislation that IMPROVES gun control. Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what your legislators have done for us!

It’s amazing how many politicians a few dollars can buy. The NRA donate a few bucks to their political cause, and “we the people” get laws we don’t want.

I would encourage our Indiana legislators to organize a statewide survey that would involve youngsters

in grades 6 through 12. The survey would include

one question with a very simple yes or no response. Do we need new legislation related to gun control? I strongly believe the youngsters will say ‘yes.’ I also believe our Republican legislature will ignore the results. In fact we won’t have to be concerned about their non-action. They would never consider such a survey. They are not as concerned about active life as they are about Roe v. Wade. I mentioned youngsters because they tend to be less political, more neutral and naturally authentic. In other words, we just might get the unbiased truth for a change!

As mass shootings increase, Republicans decrease gun laws.

A no permit to carry law goes into effect June 1 in Indiana. If that isn’t leading us backwards, we don’t know what is. So why do you vote for them?

It does take a monster to kill children. But what does it make us if we allow this to happen over and over again, can change it, and yet do nothing?

90% of Americans want universal background

checks to prevent criminals and the mentally unstable from buying guns.

Fact checker Snopes and other fact checkers rate that as true, as all major polls over the last several years show broad support for background checks among Republicans, Democrats, gun owners and even NRA members. It’s a sensible measure to prevent schoolchildren and others from being slaughtered. Then why doesn’t it pass? Ask your Republican legislators for an answer that makes sense. They can’t and won’t give you one.

All you can do is vote them out. Now.

Indiana Senator Todd Young has accepted bribes from the NRA in the amount of $2,897,582. And Senator Mike Braun

has accepted bribes from them in the amount of $1,249,967. This is the reason they refuse to make any changes to gun regulations.

When legislators blame mass shootings on mental health issues, I have to ask: What are they doing to address mental health in their states?

The Republican lawmakers’ idea to help the homeless in the state of Tennessee is to make it a felony to camp on public lands. Apparently their idea will result in up to six years in jail and loss of voting rights. How about giving your homeless a hand up instead of stepping on them when they are down?
