Teles, Rev. Dennis


74, of La Porte passed away at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014 at IU Health La Porte Hospital. He was born April 22, 1939 in East Chicago, Indiana to Adam and Carrie (Maciejewsk­i) Teles; he lived in this area since 2009, coming from Merrillvil­le, Indiana.

He attended St. Stanislaus grade school, East Chicago, Indiana, graduated from Bishop Noll High School, Hammond, Indiana, graduated from St. Mary’s College, with a B.A. from Orchard Lake, Michigan, Mt. St. Mary Seminary, Norwood, Ohio with a Theologica­l degree. On May 29, 1965, he was ordained by Bishop Andrew Grutka, Holy Angels Cathedral, Gary, Indiana.

Rev. Teles served at St. Peter Catholic Church in La Porte, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Hammond, Indiana, St. Mary’s, East Chicago, Indiana, St. Paul’s in Valparaiso, Indiana, St. Stanislaus, Michigan City, Indiana, St. Patrick’s, Chesterton, Indiana and St. Mary’s in Crown Point, Indiana. 1st Pastorate at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in La Porte for 12 years then St. Peter & Paul in Merrillvil­le, Indiana for 25 years, Blessed Sacrament Calumet Township and senior Priest at St. Joseph Catholic Church, La Porte for 4 1/2 years. He also served as Dean of South Lake County for 10 years. He served on many committees for Diocese of Gary; he loved the great outdoors and all of God’s creatures, especially his German Shepherd dogs, Arko and Bisca.

He is survived by his extended family, Darlyne J. Steffens, Fish Lake, Laureen (Michael) Raymond, Fish Lake, Danielle Raymond, Fish Lake and her fiance Kyle Broxon, Cleveland, Ohio, Lynda (Steve) Robey, and Fred T. Robey both of Whitesvill­e, Kentucky, Walter M. (Karen L.) Douglas and their son Mark Douglas Jr, all of Painted Post, New York, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thursday, February 6th, 2014 the Rite of Reception is at 2:00 p.m., Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and the Evening Prayer, all will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Friday, February 7th, 2014 Morning Prayer at 10:00 a.m., immediatel­y to follow a Mass of Christian Burial, Presider is Bishop Dale J. Melczek. A private family burial will follow the Mass.
