NWI teams piling up the points

Last March, Morgan Township’s Kylee Maxwell — the lone gymnast representing the Cherokees again this season — concluded an impressive rookie season with an all-around score of 37.15 and a fifth-place finish. Regular season competitions aren’t quite as prevalent for Maxwell due to her status as a one-girl team, but if her January scores are any indication, the Morgan Township sophomore isn’t missing a beat this season. Two meets at Chesterton in the month of January gave Maxwell a chance to compete — and she did not disappoint. Against Hobart and Chesterton on Jan. 14, Maxwell took home all-around honors with a sore of 37.45, while also posting the highest scores of the day on beam (9.65) and vault (9.7). Nine days later against Chesterton and Lowell, Maxwell again took home the top all-around score (37.05) as well as first place marks on vault (9.45).
