-

78, of Gary, Indiana passed on Monday, February 24, 2014 after an extended battle with cancer. He was born on May 25, 1935 in High Point, NC to Floyd Conard and Mary Irene Fields. Paul grew up in High Point where he graduated from William Penn High School in 1956. His interests in how things worked occupied hours of his time. He continued his education and received certifications in various instructional courses such as Electronics, Building Construction, Heating and Cooling, Brick Masonry, Welding and Auto Body Repair.

Paul resided in Newark, NJ prior to relocating to Gary, Indiana in 1967, where he began working for the Gary School System and part-time for the Portage School System. He amassed 46 years with Gary Schools until his death. He performed his duties exceptionally and thoroughly enjoyed his role as a hands-on Lead Employee. To work with his co-workers shoulder to shoulder was most satisfying, as he found his employment challenging.

From the administrative office to the workers in the field, Paul was well respected for his skills and commitment to the school system. He was all about getting the job done and done correctly. He dedicated his life to the Gary Schools and his departure will leave a void.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvis Nixon, Ronald Craig, and Floyd Conard and a sister, Barbara A. Nixon. He leaves to mourn their loss, his son, Lawrence Conard of Chandler, Arizona; a twin sister, Mrs. Pauline (Rev. Wilton) Gyant of Newark, NJ; two brothers, Andrew J. Nixon, Jr. (Phyllis) of Glennwood, IL and Sylvester Nixon of Merrillville, IN, and a sister, Ms. Alva Nixon Gripper of Greensboro, NC. There are two granddaughters, Kelly and Kendra Conard of Chandler, AZ. Also Florine Conard, mother to Lawrence Conard and two stepdaughters, Princess Frynchie Deneice, and Myesha Conard of Virginia and New Jersey respectfully. He will be fondly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends.
