ND to honor four seniors
SOUTH BEND — Tom Knight has watched his share of senior days.
But the Notre Dame forward isn’t sure what his response will be now that he’s going to actually participate in one.
Knight will be one of four seniors recognized before today’s regular-season home finale against Pittsburgh.
“It’s crossed my mind. I don’t know how I’m going to react to it,” Knight said after Wednesday’s win against Georgia Tech. “I’ve been here so long. Five years. I’ve seen other senior nights. It will be great to go up there and try to get a win against a good team.”
Eric Atkins, Garrick Sherman and Pat Crowley will also be honored.
“We’ve gone through a lot,” Knight said. “If we end (the regular season) with a couple of victories, I think it will make it a little more sweet.”
The last home game of the regular season comes against a familiar foe.
“It will (feel like a Big East game),” coach Mike Brey said. “We’ve had some unbelievable battles with this program.”
Notre Dame (15-14, 6-10 ACC) has won the last five games in the series. Given the Irish’s inconsistencies this season, a sixth-straight victory would be impressive.
The Panthers (21-7, 9-6) have built up another strong NCAA Tournament resume. Pittsburgh has had at least 20 victories for 13 consecutive seasons. Lamar Patterson leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game. He’s been named the ACC Player of the Week three times this year.
“I told our guys we have a chance to play an NCAA Tournament team. They are a flatout NCAA Tournament team,” Brey said. “It would be a heck of a win for us.”
