Woman charged with stab­bing her hus­band

A Gary woman has been charged with at­tempted mur­der, ag­gra­vated bat­tery, bat­tery by means of a deadly weapon, bat­tery re­sult­ing in se­ri­ous bod­ily in­jury and in­ter­fer­ence with reporting a crime in a stab­bing in­volv­ing her hus­band.

Melinda Ra­mona Chan­dler, 34, got into an ar­gu­ment with her hus­band, An­to­nio Chan­dler, on June 21. Melinda Chan­dler went to their home at 4207 W. 23rd Ave., then called her hus­band to come home. When he ar­rived, Melinda Chan­dler al- leg­edly stabbed him in the stomach. He raised his arm to de­fend him­self and was stabbed in the left wrist. The man told po­lice he felt light­headed and fell to the floor, where Melinda Chan­dler stabbed him again in his up­per right arm.

About 9 a.m., Chan­dler dropped off her hus­band at the emer­gency room of Com­mu­nity Hospi­tal in Mun­ster and drove away. An­to­nio Chan­dler had in­ter­nal and ex­ter­nal stitches and his kid­neys were in­jured from the stab wounds.

The most se­ri­ous of the charges is pun­ish­able by 20 to 50 years.
