Woman charged with stabbing her husband
A Gary woman has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury and interference with reporting a crime in a stabbing involving her husband.
Melinda Ramona Chandler, 34, got into an argument with her husband, Antonio Chandler, on June 21. Melinda Chandler went to their home at 4207 W. 23rd Ave., then called her husband to come home. When he arrived, Melinda Chandler al- legedly stabbed him in the stomach. He raised his arm to defend himself and was stabbed in the left wrist. The man told police he felt lightheaded and fell to the floor, where Melinda Chandler stabbed him again in his upper right arm.
About 9 a.m., Chandler dropped off her husband at the emergency room of Community Hospital in Munster and drove away. Antonio Chandler had internal and external stitches and his kidneys were injured from the stab wounds.
The most serious of the charges is punishable by 20 to 50 years.
