Police: Drunken woman steals car carrying 13-year-old boy
LANSING, Ill. — An intoxicated Chicago woman stole a Michigan man’s vehicle with his 13-year-old son inside after she rear ended him on Interstate 80 in Lansing early Saturday.
The incident happened about 5:35 a.m. just outside Indiana state lines on I-80, Indiana State Police said. The woman, Larona L. Green, 32, of Chicago, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet van east when she rear-ended a 2005 Suburban with a man and his son inside, police said.
After being hit, both vehicles came to a stop and the driver of the Suburban went to check on Green, police said. Soon after, Green exited her van and climbed into the man’s Suburban, with the man’s 13-year-old son in the front seat, and left the scene and entered Indiana, police said.
The boy had a cellphone and provided his father with information about landmarks as Green drove. Green was apprehended on I-94 in Portage, police said. The boy was not injured. Green had a blood-alcohol level of 0.119 percent, police said. She was taken to Porter County Jail and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, possession of a stolen auto and criminal confinement. Other charges are pending, police said.
