Hammond man faces rape, battery charges

- POST-TRIBUNE STAFF REPORT

A Hammond man has been charged in Lake Superior Court with rape, sexual battery and false informing.

Antonio Pierre Jones, 26, of the 7400 block of Monroe Avenue, is charged with sexually assaulting the woman on Monday at the residence where his children’s mother and her family live.

The 18-year- old victim told police that Jones sexually assaulted her while the mother of Jones’ children had left the residence and they were alone. She told police Jones had previously sent her sexually explicit text messages and that she was afraid of him because of alleged violence against the children’s mother.

The victim’s mother told police her daughter “was diagnosed as having borderline intelligence,” the probable cause affidavit states.

When the mother of Jones’ children returned to the residence, she immediately sensed something was wrong after seeing rumpled covers on the bed and the behavior of the woman and Jones. The victim eventually told Jones’ children’s mother about the incident.

As the couple argued outside in a nearby alley, police were called about 4 p.m. about a child wandering unattended in the same alley behind a church in the 7000 block of Indianapolis Boulevard. When police spoke with the couple, Jones gave a fake name and birth date, court records state. The mother told police what the victim had said occurred with Jones.

The woman was taken to St. Margaret Mercy Hospital for an examination.

The rape charge is a Level 3 felony, which is punishable by three to 16 years
