Program for future police officers
The Porter County Sheriff ’s Department is forming a program for young people interested in law enforcement careers.
The Law Enforcement Career Exploring program will provide classroom and practical experiences and will emphasize community involvement, character development and leadership.
Training topics will include criminal and accident investigations, physical fitness, defensive tactics, SWAT, K9, first aid, CPR and firearms safety and training. The program is open to anyone ages 14 to 20, and all costs are covered by the sheriff ’s department.
Meetings will take place twice a month. An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at the sheriff ’s department, 2755 Indiana 49, Valparaiso.
