Cops say woman lied about crash
A Valparaiso woman was charged with drunken driving, leaving the scene of a crash and false informing after a hit-and-run accident Thursday evening, police said.
Karley Stokes, 22, called police about 5:50 p.m. to report that a driver had struck her Chevrolet Equinox, which had heavy front end damage, while traveling south on Calumet Avenue.
But police also got a call about a hit-and-run crash that happened about 10 minutes earlier at Bullseye Road and Oak Grove Drive, and witnesses gave the license plate number of Stokes’ SUV as the vehicle that fled that scene, police reported.
They said Stokes consistently denied being involved in that crash, but the evidence that she was led to her arrest.
