83, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Fri­day, Au­gust 22, 2014 at the Vet­er­ans Res­i­dence of Cameron, MO. Ge­orge was born on Novem­ber 8, 1930 in Joliet, IL, to the late Ge­orge and Kate (Lo­ef­fler). Ge­orge was a vet­eran of the Army Air Corps and served in the Korean War where he trained as a para­trooper and re­ceived com­men­da­tions for his ser­vice. He was a con­tin­u­ous mem­ber of the Na­tional Car­pen­ters and Join­ers Union and a Mill­wright for lo­cal #1043 for over 50 years. Ge­orge, AKA Big Ge­orge, was an avid golfer and a lover of a good time. He was known to work hard, sweat, get dirty, laugh and play hard. While Big Ge­orge pre­sented a “toughguy” per­sona, those who knew him be­yond his gruff ex­te­rior loved him and un­der­stood Ge­orge’s loy­alty knew no bounds.

He was pre­ceded in death by his lov­ing wife, Donna (West­phal). Ge­orge is sur­vived by his first wife, Betty (Sas­seville) four chil­dren, Cindy (Ash­man), Larry, Jeff Shaffner and Kel­ley Shaffn­erBrown. Ge­orge is also sur­vived by his 5 grand­chil­dren and two great-grand­chil­dren.

A pri­vate cer­e­mony will be held in Kansas City, MO. A cel­e­bra­tion of his life, where tall tales and laugh­ter can be shared, will be held at the Gary Sports­man’s Club, 10101 Madi­son St., Crown Point, In­di­ana on Satur­day, Novem­ber 1st, 12:00-3:00 p.m.
