RailCats’ play­off hopes take a hit

Ethan Hollingsworth pitched five-hit ball over seven in­nings and Josh Maz­zola hit a two-run homer as the Win­nipeg Gold­eyes beat the RailCats 4-1 Satur­day night in Win­nipeg.

The loss dropped Gary (52-46) one game be­hind Cen­tral Di­vi­sion leader Lin­coln (53-45) with two games re­main­ing.

Drew Muren’s RBI sin­gle in the eighth ac­counted for the RailCats’ scor­ing. Stephen His­cock (10-6) took the loss, al­low­ing four runs on nine hits over seven in­nings.

PUC men’s soc­cer wins: Papa Otoo scored in the 96th minute to lift Pur­due Univer­sity Calumet past Cor­ner­stone 3-2 in over­time at Mun­ster High School. Otoo had two goals and Kwesi An­noh one for the Pere­grines (1-0).

Cal Col­lege men’s soc­cer falls: Clarke handed Calumet Col­lege’s men’s soc­cer team a 4-3 sea­sonopen­ing loss in over­time. Ryan Zim­mer, Ste­wart Thur and Dono­van Cole scored for the Crim­son Wave.
