McVay says Donald likely out for season

Aaron Donald is unlikely to return to the Rams’ defense this season.

Donald will miss his fourth straight game with a high ankle sprain Sunday when the Rams (4-10) host the Broncos.

Coach Sean McVay admitted Friday that his seven-time All-Pro lineman and three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year isn’t expected to play in the final two meaningles­s games of the Rams’ disastrous Super Bowl title defense.

“He’s not cleared yet, and I don’t know that I see that changing in the next couple of weeks,” McVay said.

The 31-year-old Donald had never missed a game due to injury in his NFL career before this disappoint­ing end to his ninth season. He has a careerlow five sacks in 11 games, but was still named to his ninth Pro Bowl this week.

Packers offensive linemen Elgton Jenkins has signed a contract extension with the Packers. A person familiar with the situation says Jenkins received a four-year extension with a base value of $68 million. ... Jack Conklin has agreed to a four-year, $60 million extension to stay with the Browns, who continue to invest in their solid offensive line.

MLB: Outfielder Michael Conforto has agreed to a $36 million, two-year contract with the Giants. Conforto missed all of last season following right shoulder surgery . ... The Diamondbac­ks acquired highly regarded catching prospect Gabriel Moreno and veteran outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on Friday, sending slugger Daulton Varsho to the Blue Jays. The 22-yearold Moreno is one of the game’s top prospects. He made the majors last year with the Blue Jays, hitting .319 with a homer in 69 at-bats.

Soccer: France World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi has announced his retirement from soccer. The 35-yearold Matuidi won the World Cup in 2018 and made the last of his 84 appearance­s for Les Bleus three years ago.
