Chicago man accused of battering pregnant woman

A Chicago man is accused of breaking into a Gary woman’s house to beat her with his fists and a gun last month.

Aaron Jones was charged with domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony; domestic battery with bodily injury to a pregnant woman, a Level 5 felony; domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony; domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony; and residentia­l entry breaking and entering, a Level 6 felony.

On July 8, Gary police officers were dispatched to the 4900 block of Kentucky Street to investigat­e a home invasion and domestic battery incident, according to the probable cause affidavit. A caller told police that a man entered through the garage door and was trying to kick down another door. Officers saw a silver Chrysler 300 with Illinois plates in the driveway, saw the damaged garage door and could hear yelling, court records state.

An officer entered the residence and saw a man holding a black gun in his hand. He ordered the man to drop his gun and to get on the ground, records state.

Police saw a woman who was bleeding from the head. She said that she was six months pregnant and that Jones attacked her, the affidavit states. She told police that she argued with Jones on July 7, telling him that she did not want him in her home. A relative told Jones that she wasn’t home but he proceeded to physically raise the garage door, damaging it in the process, in order to gain entry, records state. He then kicked in a door to the home.

The woman went upstairs to hide in a bedroom closet, but Jones found her and started hitting her in the head and face with his fists, court records state.

A relative located the woman’s handgun and pointed it at Jones to stop him but he took the gun away and started beating the woman in the head with the gun.

The woman suffered blood and swelling on her face and cuts on both her hands, the affidavit states.

She told police that before he broke the garage door, Jones tried to break into the front door, climb through a window and break the back door. She hid her children in another room, records state.

The woman received treatment at Methodist Hospital, including staples in her head, sutures to her right hand and she suffered a fractured left ring finger.
