Why Easter makes me happy
Last weekend, we celebrated Easter. I’m always thankful for the sacrifice of Jesus and His resurrection, which assures believers of forgiveness of sins and eternal life in heaven. Going from the sorrow of our Savior’s death on Good Friday to the joy of the Risen Lord on Easter Sunday is always a time of reflection, and it provides a wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends.
At the Capitol, the next few weeks should be busy with hearing Senate bills on the House floor, while that chamber considers our bills. One of my fellow representatives describes this period as bill-killing time. Almost a hundred House bills did not make it out of Senate Committee, and almost 60 Senate bills perished on our side of the rotunda. Many more bills may not make it to the floor. We’ll see what advances to the governor.
At the same time, we’re drafting our state budget. We still have until Friday to hear bills with a fiscal impact in our Appropriations and Budget Committee, and our joint committee on Appropriations and Budget is starting to meet to consider some of the bills that will make up the state budget. Our state revenues are still very strong, so the budget is looking really good so far this year.
