Poteau’s baseball team was swept by Fort Gibson, falling to third in District 4A-8.

Poteau (12-14, 7-4 district) lost 9-0 Monday at Fort Gibson. Ben Brooks had Poteau’s only hit.

Poteau lost 18-4 at home on Tuesday.

The Tigers roared out of the block as they scored two runs in the first inning. It went down hill for the Pirates from that point.

Poteau had an opportunity to put up a crooked number in the bottom of the first. Jagger Dodson, Brooks and Caden Fox each stroked singles to juice the bases. The next two Pirates struck out.

The Tigers again posted a pair of runs in the third.

The Pirates managed to score a single run in the third as Brooks singled and the circled the bases three free passes.

The Tigers added two runs in fourth inning and then scored six runs in the sixth.

Poteau managed to a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth to avoid the run rule, but that only gave the Tigers an extra turn at bat, in which they put seven more runs up.

Poteau went quietly in its final turn, sending four to the plate, but could not get a runner past first.

Brooks and Fox both had two hits and a walk.

Poteau can finish second in 4A-8 with a win Saturday at Stigler and two Sallisaw losses, but takes third if Sallisaw wins one of its last two.
