Poteau High School goes through ‘safety search’ Tuesday morning

The normal everyday TuesJ day routine at moteau High pchool didn’t quite go that way this past Tuesday mornJ ing.

The “safety search” was prompted by what was disJ covered jonday afternoonI which led to mHp Human oeJ source lfficer games iowe to investigat­e as per recorded on the moteau molice DepartJ ment’s radio log call that was submitted to The Poteau Daily News.

“We had a low credibilit­y threat written on the bathroom wall (jondayF at the high schoolI” moteau m.D. Chief ptephen cruen said Tuesday morning. “At the school’s requestI we added an emphaJ sis on campus (TuesdayF and will continue to investigat­e the origin of the threat.”

“pite leaders received noJ tification of a potential threat on our campusI” Ballard said. “Administra­tors are actively working with district adminJ istration and local agencies to ensure the safety of our stuJ dents. mlease reassure your students that their safety is our top priority and precauJ tions are in place to provide a safe learning environmen­t for all members of our school community. We have also had an uptick of students bringJ ing items to school that are against school policyI andI if caughtI (theyF will face school discipline or other measures from our local authoritie­s.”

mHp also had the services of ieclore County pheriff’s Department Deputies Chase Blake and Cindy Hicks and their respective K9 dogs gokJ er and Kia during Tuesday morning’s “safety search” searchI in which nothing more suspicious was detected.
