Poteau girls third in regionals; Wister’s Ollar wins hurdles

Poteau’s girls track team took third in its Class 4A regional at Okmulgee on Saturday, winning three events and qualifying six other entries for state.

Brooklyn Garner bested Emma West of Verdigris in both of the premier sprint events.

Garner won the 100-meter dash in 12.81 seconds, edging West by 0.06 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Garner rushed through the line in 26.2 seconds, 0.33 seconds ahead of West.

Poteau won the 4x100meter dash in 50.98 seconds, 0.67 seconds ahead of Verdigris.

While taking second place in the 4x200-meter relay, Poteau’s group of Garner, Emery Lomon, Savanna Bryan and Dasiee Powers broke the school record in the event by 0.52 seconds.

The quartet recorded a time of 1:47.1 at the Broken Bow meet to tie the mark set in 1980.

Ashly Johnson earned third in the two-mile run in 12:45.32, 2.3 seconds away from runner-up Baylee Woodrich of Lincoln Christian. Alex Pickle was fifth in 13:02.11.

Zoe Nesbitt took fourth in the mile run in a personal record 5:47.49, making state with the 12th-best regional time in Class 4A. Johnson was sixth in 5:53.75.

Poteau’s 4x800-meter relay of Soehlman, Pickle, Johnson and Nesbitt was fourth in 10:38.91. Poteau qualified for state with the 14th-best Class 4A regional time.

Emery Lomon was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.9 seconds. She qualified for state with the 12th-fastest regional time in Class 4A.

Chyanne Brickell was seventh in the shotput and discus at 33 feet and 999, respective­ly. Brickell made state in discus with the 15th-best Class 4A regional throw.

Poteau’s 4x400-meter relay of Bryan, Powers, Lomon and Gracyn Soehlman placed sixth in 4:30.31.

Poteau’s boys qualified two relay teams for state while taking 11th with 20 points.

Poteau’s 4x800-meter relay team of Stihl Snyder, Ramiro Lucero, Riley Gastelum and Tyler Baker took fourth in 8:44.65, 0.37 seconds away from third-place Jay. Poteau made state with the 15thbest Class 4A regional time.

Stihl Snyder took fifth in the mile run in 4:46.93. He was 0.67 seconds away from qualifying for state.

Riley Gastelum was fifth in the two-mile run in 11:14.91, 7.67 seconds away from fourth-place runner Tyler Stine of Lincoln Christian.

Poteau’s 4x100-meter relay team of Caleb Andrews, Jace Hall, Wyatt Gamble and Dax Collins took fifth in 45.17 seconds, 0.06 seconds away from fourth-place Wagoner. Poteau qualified for state by tying for the 15th-best Class 4A regional time.

In the 4x200-meter relay, Poteau’s Andrews, Hall, Gamble and Collins were fifth in 1:35.42.

Jacob Smith tied for seventh in shotput at 442.5.

The Class 4A state meet is Saturday at Catoosa High School.

Dollar qualifies for Spiro

Also in Okmulgee that day, Spiro earned eight points on the boys side and three points on the girls side.

Dalton Dollar became the Bulldogs’ lone state qualifier by placing third in discus at 126-11. Ryan Rogers was seventh at 117 feet.

Kane Hendricks was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.52 seconds.

For Spiro’s girls, Lily Blankenshi­p finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 27.98 seconds and sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.23 seconds.

Keihara Marshall was eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:07.88.

Kambrie Rogers was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.06 seconds.

The Class 3A state meet is Saturday at Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City.

Wolves qualify Cruz, Adkins for state

Heavener put three entries into the state meet with two regional performanc­es automatica­lly qualifying with top-three finishes.

Steven Cruz took third in the two-mile run in 10:45.4. Isaac Cook was fifth in 11:45.66.

Tony Adkins was second in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.74 seconds, 1.17 seconds away from winner Damon Rowe of Kingston. Cook was fifth in 45.83 seconds.

Heavener’s boys 4x800-meter relay team was fourth in 9:00.19, qualifying for state with the 13th-best Class 3A regional time.

Cruz was close to qualifying in a second event, taking fourth in the mile run in 4:55.68, 2.11 seconds away from the final additional qualifying time for Class 3A. Seth Lynch placed fifth in 5:08.98.

Adkins was seventh in the 200-meter dash in 24.8 seconds.

The top finish for Heavener’s girls was Brooklyn May’s 10th-place finish in discus at 75-5.

Ollar wins two races; Scott leaps to state

At the Okemah regional on Saturday, Wister’s Coda Ollar won both hurdles events for Class 2A.

Ollar won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.65 seconds, beating Sayre’s Noel Fernandez by 0.42 seconds.

He won the 300-meter hurdles in 41.66 seconds, beating Gore’s Liam Edwards by 1.03 seconds. Ollar is listed as the No. 2-seeded contestant in the 300-meter hurdles.

Case Shipman was sixth in the mile run in 5:22.65.

Pocola’s Garrett Scott made state in the long jump, placing third at 197.

Scott was sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:15.07.

In Class A, Arkoma’s Carl Brake was sixth in discus at 105-7. Brake was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 21.85 seconds. He was eighth in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.94 seconds.

Kaila Gilchrist was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 20 seconds. She was eighth in the 300-meter hurdles in 57.21 seconds.

Whitesboro’s Allison Blagg was eighth in high jump at 4-4.

Ollar and Scott will be in the Class 2A state meet on Friday at Catoosa.
