Mother’s Day Salute coming Saturday; graduation section May 28

- David Seeley PDN Editor Seeley is the editor of The Poteau Daily News. He can be reached by telephone at (918) 647-3188, Ext. 30 or by e-mail at editor@ poteaudailynews. com.

The Poteau Daily News will help celebrate Mother’s Day, which is Sunday, with a salute to mothers in our Saturday edition. We will have a collage of some of the submitted photographs of mothers, grandmothers, etc … that we get either through our Facebook post we made last week or by submitting them to editor@poteaudailynews.com. Make sure everyone is identified in the photograph and well as tell the relationship.

We will have our Graduation 2022 special section(s) publishing May 28. Due to space constraints, we’re only guaranteeing group photographs (which is preferred) or (if by no other choice) individual headshots of high school seniors from the schools who go to 12th grade and the eighthgrade graduates from the four schools who only go to eighth grade — Fanshawe, Hodgen, Monroe and Shady Point — be sent along with their biographies to editor@poteaudailynews.com.

The deadline to get those to me is May 19-20 — depending upon when your respective school’s final day will be.

If space allows, any other such graduation submissions will be placed in the special section(s). Otherwise, what else is submitted that doesn’t “make the cut” will be pleced on our website.

It was such a tragic weekend with the passing of country and western singer Naomi Judd on Saturday, the day before she and her daughter Wynonna were going to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

I can remember when The Judds hit the scene. R.I.P., Naomi Judd. Thanks for your musical legacy.

The high school spring sports has two more weeks left, with the bigger of the two weeks this week with four slow-pitch softball teams (Howe, Leflore, Pocola and Whitesboro), Red Oak’s baseball team and several local track athletes making state.

Next week will have state baseball tournaments for the higher classifications as well as the Heavener Wolves soccer team (should the Wolves get to the state title match) and boys golf.

Then, Sports Editor Tom Firme can take a little break, but until then he’ll keep you all abreast of what’s going on at state — either by the physical editions/e-editions and/or our website at www. poteaudailynews.com. •••
