Spiro falls in regional final
Spiro’s baseball team rallied after losing its Class 3A regional opener at Kingston on Friday, but was unable to keep up with the host team in the final on Saturday.
Spiro (22-14) lost its first game 12-3 to Kansas.
Gannon Shackleford was 2-for-3 with a run batted in. Hunter Sparks threw six strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
That evening, Spiro beat Westville 10-0.
Shackleford and Blake Dedmon both went 2-for3 with two RBIs. Jared Huff was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Shackleford threw six strikeouts while allowing five hits.
To start Saturday play, Spiro beat Kansas 5-3.
Perdue threw seven strikeouts. Zander Riggs went 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs. Blake Dedmon was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In the final, the Bulldogs led 3-0 by the top of the third inning before losing 8-5 to Kingston.
Kingston tied it in the bottom half of the third before taking the lead in the fourth. Spiro tied it on a sacrifice fly before Kingston went ahead 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth.
Perdue drew a basesloaded walk in the top of the seventh, but the bases were left loaded after a fly out ended it. Perdue went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Huff walked twice.
