Bertha Louise (Box) Loyd, 75, of Stringtown, formerly of Summerfiel­d, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, in Fort Smith, Ark.

She was born June 9, 1946, in Howe to John Alvis and Alice Sible (Lowery) Box.

She started her career in health care, working in hospitals and nursing homes. She had multiple jobs over the years, many at the same time. She worked most of her life for the State of Oklahoma.

She married Wylie Levon Loyd on March 26, 1962, at Leflore. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before his passing on Dec. 20, 2020.

She was a member of the Summerfiel­d Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, gardening and canning, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by daughters Valinda Elrod and husband Jerry of Stringtown and Alice Curry and husband John of Stringtown, dear, sweet friend Tish Livesay of Heavener, grandchild­ren Tammy Dodd and husband Cheyenne of Stringtown, J.W. Elrod and wife Mary of Stringtown, Jared Elrod and wife Deidre of Stringtown and Sharina Curry of Antlers, great-grandchild­ren Alyssa Dodd, Coltin Dodd, Kaci Elrod, Raylee Elrod, Jasper Elrod, Judd Elrod, Jolyn Elrod and Daigen Fullingim, brothers William Delton Box and wife Joyce of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Robert Lee Box and wife Janet of Nicut, Okla., sisters Lillian May Oliver of Seminole, Alice Irene Earls of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Betsy Marie Jones and husband Vernice of Haywood, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Wylie Levon Loyd and siblings Viola Hopkins, Lorraine McElroy, Earl Box and Charles Box.

Her service under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, Atoka, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Stringtown with Bro. Lynn Loyd officiatin­g.

Pallbearer­s will be Shy Dodd, Jardd Elrod, J.W. Elrod, Coltin Dodd, Robbie Box and Jake Klutts. Honorary pallbearer­s will be Judd Elrod, Jasper Elrod and Daigen Fullingim. Flower girls will be Alyssa Dodd, Kaci Elrod, Raylee Elrod and Jolyn Elrod.

Interment will take place at Mount Olive Cemetery, Stringtown.
