Top photograph, Talihina Mayor David Estep, left, awards the $1,000 grand prize to Iron Road, a Talihina-based band with Talihina High School graduates Troy Turner, Keith Lickly, Kenny Lickly and Mike Lickly during the second annual Battle of the Bands, an event to help raise funds for the Talihina police and fire department­s, that took place Saturday afternoon and night in the parking lot of the Talihina High School agricultur­e building/old gym. Keith and Kenny Lickly work for LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) — with Keith as its director. Bottom photograph, MJ and the Geezers perform as one of the contestant­s. BJP from McAlester was runner-up and earned $500, while Night Hawk, a band with members from Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas, was third to earn $250. Estep said to this point, the event raised $2597.50, but Estep said there are still T-shirts available to be purchased for $10 each, which would also go towards Talihina’s finest.
