Emma Damato and Kenzie Tuck of Pocola helped Murray State College beat Danville Area College 5-4 on Tuesday to reach to the NJCAA Division II national softball quarterfinals. Tuck walked and scored on a triple for MSC’s first run in the second inning, and Damato followed by reaching base on an error to bring in a run. Damato also singled.

Shakyrah Gladness, a former Spiro and Pocola athlete, had a run-scoring single as Seminole State College lost its NJCAA Division I national softball first-rounder to Lakeland College 8-7 on Tuesday.

Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State: Poteau football head coach Greg Werner will be inducted into the OCA Hall of Fame on July 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Southern Hills Marriott Hotel in Tulsa. Pocola’s Raychel Nelke will play in the All-State golf match on July 25 at 8 a.m. at Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Catoosa. Howe’s Shiloh Fletcher and Raelyn Delt and Pocola’s Mika Scott will play for Small East in the small-school girls basketball All-State game at the Frank Herald Field House in Jenks on July 27 at 7 p.m. Poteau’s Dean Odom and Todd Mattox will play for the East Team with Mike Odom on the coaching staff in the All-State football game on July 29 at 7 p.m.

Carl Albert State College’s baseball team will have a prospect showcase for members of Classes 2022-25 on June 6 and July 19 at 1 p.m. The cost is $40 per player.

The Poteau Kiwanis Club golf tournament will be Friday at Wolf Ridge Country Club. Registration is at 9 a.m. Tee time is at 10 a.m. Entry for this three-person scramble is $195. Lunch is provided.

The Poteau Kiwanis Club Learn to Swim program starts June 7 and is Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month, ending on June 30. The program is free.
Registration will be 9 a.m. on June 7. Depending on how many children sign up, there could be two sessions each day, 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The Spider Webb Memorial Golf Tournament will be June 10-12 at Wolf Ridge Country Club. The cost is $550 or $500 if the team has a personal cart.
Included are the Saturday team horserace for qualified teams, postround hospitality on Saturday, on-course beverage stations, flight payouts, closest-to-hole prizes and tee gifts for each player.
June 10 is the practice round with tee times available all day. Registration begins at noon. June 11 is the first tournament round with tee times at 9 a.m. Teams can still register that day at 7 a.m.

The Poteau Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic will June 17 at Wolf Ridge Country Club. Tee time will be 9 a.m. This is a two- or four-person scramble. The cost is $140 per two-person team or $70 per person. Lunch, beverages, snacks, cart and greens fees are included. Pre-register by June 3 to get a polo shirt.
