Heavener sweeps home openers

Getting 13 points from McKinley Alexander and an 8-0 second quarter proved to be the difference for the Heavener Lady Wolves in their 4332 win in their home opener against the Wilburton Lady Diggers at Heavener on Tuesday night.

A 3-pointer by Kinley Brand tied the score at 9-all with 4:52 left in the first quarter.

Wilburton led 15-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Meredith Smith's free throw gave Heavener a 17-15 lead with 4:51 remaining in the second quarter.

Heavener (3-5) held Wilburton scoreless in the second quarter. Heavener led 20-15 at halftime. A 3-pointer by Ava Cartwright right before the buzzer gave Heavener a 30-25 lead at the end of the third quarter.

A two-pointer by Cayleigh McGee extended the Heavener lead to 38-30 with 1:58 left in the fourth quarter.

A free throw by McKinley Alexander gave Heavener a 41-32 lead with 51.9 seconds left in the game.

Behind Alexander’s 13 points were Cartwright and McGee with eight points each, Brand with five points, Mariana Garcia and Smith had three points apiece, Brooklyn May with two points and Harley Harvell had a point.

Getting 31 points from Landon Thurman and a 15-0 third quarter proved to be the difference for the Heavener Wolves in their 51-46 win in their home opener over Wilburton at Heavener on Tuesday night.

Two free throws by Nick Lopez gave Heavener a 7-6 lead with 2:21 left in the first quarter.

Heavener (7-1) led 12-6 at the end of the first quarter.

A 3-pointer by Thurman extended the Heavener lead to 17-6 with 6:53 left in the second quarter.

A two-pointer by Wilburton cut the Heavener lead to 20-19 with 1:17 remaining in the second quarter. Wilburton led 21- 20 at halftime. A two pointer by Thurman capped a 10-0 run, which gave Heavener a 30-21 lead with 3:13 remaining in the third quarter.

A 3-pointer by Lopez right before the buzzer extended the Heavener lead to 35-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Two clutch Dalton Semore free throws gave Heavener a 51-46 lead and the win with 5.3 seconds left in the game.

The Wolves were 16-20 from the free-throw line for 80 percent.

Behind Thurman’s 31 points were Lopez with 10 points, Bryce Morrison with five points, Semore with four points and Jackson Clubb with a point.
