Wolves reach epic start; Heavener girls fall to Hartshorne

Heavener’s boys basketball team reached its best start in at least 18 years while the girls team lost its third game in the last four at home against Hartshorne on Friday.

Heavener girls unable to sustain in second half

Getting 13 points from Brooklyn May and 11 points from McKinley Alexander weren’t enough for the Heavener Lady Wolves (3-6) in their 7451 loss.

Alexander’s 3-pointer tied the score at 7-all with 1:39 left in the first quarter. The score was tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Two free throws by Hartshorne gave the visitors a 16-9 lead with 2:56 remaining in the second quarter.

Hartshorne led 21-12 at halftime.

The Lady Miners outscored the Lady Wolves 27-21 in the third quarter.

The Lady Miners led 48-33 at the end of the third quarter.

A free throw by Mariana Garcia cut the Lady Wolves’ deficit to 60-46 with 3:42 remaining in the game.

Behind May and Alexander’s combined 24 points were Cayleigh McGee with 10 points.,Ava Cartwright with nine points, Garcia with six points and Meredith Smith with two points.

Thurman Dominates in Wolves’ win over Miners

Getting 31 points from Landon Thurman and a 22-7 third quarter was the difference for the Heavener Wolves in their 54-34 win.

A free throw by Nick Lopez gave Heavener (81) a 10-6 lead in the first quarter.

A slam dunk by Thurman extended the Heavener lead to 20-8 with 5:40 remaining in the second quarter.

Two free throws by Devry Ritter capped a 8-0 run, which gave Heavener a 28-8 lead with 1:49 left in the second quarter.

Heavener led 28-14 at halftime.

Thurman’s 3-pointer extended the Wolves lead to 40-16 with 4:17 remaining in the third quarter.

The Wolves led 5021 at the end of the third quarter.

The Miners outscored the Wolves 13-4 in the fourth quarter.

Behind Thurman’s 31 points were Ritter with eight points, Lopez with five points, Dalton Semore with four points and Camden Broyles, Jackson Clubb and P.J. Riddley all with two points each.

Heavener has homecoming night tonight against Talihina with the boys playing at 6:30 p.m. and the girls at 8 p.m.
