Panel split on SB57 picks
The Philadephia Eagles face off with the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday with a 5:45 p.m. kickoff.
The Chiefs are three years removed from their last Super Bowl victory and second overall while the Eagles earned their only Super Bowl championship five years ago.
Here are the picks from the Pigskin Picks panel. Tom Firme: Chiefs Last year, several opponents suppressed Patrick Mahomes’ ability to hit wide receivers downfield with two high safeties. However, Mahomes has been nearly unstoppable this season with that or any coverage approach.
Jalen Hurts, who finished his college career with the Oklahoma Sooners, has elevated his game this year, but he doesn’t quite have the wherewithal to match Mahomes on this stage.
Mahomes showed little pain from his ankle sprain in the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 29. Thus, he’ll likely be fine in the Super Bowl. On the otherhand, Hurts’ shoulder might still be bothering him.
David Seeley: Chiefs You have the two best teams in the National Football League meeting to decide the 2022 season’s best team, which only seems logical. I’m picking the Chiefs over the Eagles in about as close a game as the AFC Championship was — likely to be decided near the end, if not the last play of the game.
Jim Marsh: Eagles
Chris Fenton: Chiefs
Trenton Boston: Eagles
Thomas Vongnarath: Eagles
Jay Sommers: Chiefs
Mitch Sampson: Chiefs
Lyle Whitworth: Eagles
I think Mahomes only being a throwing threat with the hurt ankle is going to hurt the Chiefs.
Don Johnston: Eagles*
