The Life of Ronald H. (Bill) Butler

Ronald Howard (Bill) Butler was born in Poteau, Oklahoma to Roy Livingston and Celia Florence Oliphant Butler on July 20, 1940. He died in Oklahoma City on Saturday, May 20, 2023. He graduated from Poteau High School in 1958. After attending Poteau Jr College, he worked at various jobs in different states, finally joining the Oklahoma City Fire Department in 1963. He married Dama Bennett in 1969, and they made their home in Piedmont, Oklahoma. Two children, Lori and Jon, made their family complete in 1972 and 1974.

Ron retired from the Fire Department in 1983, but continued working in constructi­on in the Oklahoma City area until 1995, when he and Dama moved to northeaste­rn Oklahoma.

In 2019, a final move was made back to Piedmont. Many advantages came with this move. It was much closer to his children and their families. Ron is survived by his wife, Dama, daughter Lori Murphy and Mike, son Jon Butler and Tiffany, grandchild­ren Kaylee, Ty and Lauren Murphy, Bella Butler and bonus grandson Caleb Cogburn. He is also survived by his sister Bobbie Proctor, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves many friends to remember him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Celia, as well as his brothers Roland and Rex Butler, and sisters Mattye Hinds, Jean Woolbright, and Barbara Rockman.

Graveside service to be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 2pm, at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau,Oklahoma.

Cremation is under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
