Spring is coming with solar eclipse in pocket

- Terry Joe Wiles

Today is the first day of spring, and the live-music events are starting to show up on my radar.

I have hope for the outside venues to get an early start and have reasonable weather. Another hope of mine can be heard in the sound of the cash register when I bought early tomato plants. Yes, I know about the Easter freeze caution, BUT I have hope and a lot of buckets to cover for protection of my early setouts.

Enough about gardening, and more music. The very biggest event for our area will be the total solar eclipse on April 8. So far, I know of three watch parties that will be well attended because this area will be prime viewing. Don’t forget your dark glasses, and please plan now for the several hundred thousand visitors from coast to coast and overseas to overflow our highways and byways.

The Heavener Runestone Park will have camping, food trucks and live music on April 6-8. It will be a good place to watch, too. The next chance to see such an event in 2044.

On the East end of the Skyline Drive in Mena, Ark., there is also a fourday event planned for all the sky pilots from out of town. This will be a citywide event with most activities in Janssen Park on the spring sessions, such April 5-8. There will be as Crocky’s in Hackett, live music, food, all things Ark., LaHuerta’s Mexican family and a great viewing Grill on Garrison Avenue from 11 a.m. until 1 in Fort Smith, Ark., The p.m. April 8. “The Libby Starks Band” will fill the house at Muldrow City Limits on Saturday as the establishment has been having 100-plus dancers on average lately. With this local, talented singer taking the stage, I look for the place to be full. Get there early for a seat. The dancing will start at 7 p.m.

Well, that ain’t all that I have to say, but it’s a good place to stop.
