Vikings sweep Mavs on road

Carl Albert State College’s baseball team swept a series at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa this past weekend.

CASC (18-12 6-6 Region 2) won 9-3 on Friday.

The Vikings scored four runs in the third inning and five in the fifth to lead 9-1.

Rhen Rutledge hit a two-run double in the third to start the scoring. He finished 3-for-5 with four runs batted in.

Eli Gilreath hit 4-for-5, belting three doubles. Izac Sizemore hit 3-for-5 with an RBI. Berrick Leu hit 3-for-5 with an RBI. Aiden Almeida allowed two hits and four walks while striking out three batters in four innings.

Logan Taylor allowed two hits and four walks in five innings.

On Saturday, CASC swept the doublehead­er at Tonkawa.

First, the Vikings won 3-0 with Jack Petit pitching the full seven innings for a one-hit shutout. He allowed four walks and threw three strikeouts.

Randon Ray hit a tworun single in the fifth. Trey Migi hit an RBI single in the seventh.

Rutledge hit 2-for-4. Gilreath had a hit and two walks.

The Vikings took the finale 10-9. Zach Burnes scored on a passed ball in the 10th inning for the goahead run.

Dominic Ornelas hit a two-run home run in a three-run fourth to tie it at 4, but the Mavericks led 7-4 by the bottom of the fifth. CASC tied it at 7 in the sixth. Both teams scored two runs in the eighth.

Burnes finished 3-for-6 with two RBIs. Ornelas hit 2-for-6 with three RBIs. Migi hit 2-for-6 with two RBIs. Ray hit 2-for-4 with two walks. Sizemore threw five strikeouts in five innings.

CASC is 49th in NJCAA Division II in on-base percentage (.425) and 29th in earned-run average (4.61). The Vikings are 37th with 18 home runs. Their pitchers are 33rd with a .266 batting average allowed.

In this weekend’s series, CASC faces a Murray State College team that has a .407 OBP (81st) and a 5.15 ERA (43rd).
