- By Ashley Torres PDN Reporter

After a years-long process, and much effort from the city, Boomarang Diner will be opening in Poteau.

According to James “Dee” Graves, who works in New Store Development for Boomarang Diner, says the hope is to open the doors to the public before the end of the first week of April. All Boomarang Diners are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.

The retro-styled restaurant serves all of the classic American diner fare.

Graves said, “We serve classic American food in an atmosphere that takes you back to the 50s and 60s. Full menu all day, including breakfast, made-to-order burgers, sandwiches, and salads, hand-breaded chicken fried steaks, fried fish, and chicken tenders, and shakes and fried pies that will blow your mind.”

The full menu for Boomarang Diner can be viewed at www. Boomarangdiner.com/ menu.

Graves said Boomarang Diner is special because it considers itself part of the communities it serves, and cares about its customers.

“Boomarang is the community diner, where we know our customers by name, know their order, and value and serve them like family. When you order at Boomarang Diner, you know that you’re are getting delicious food, freshly made, and at a reasonable price,” Graves said.

The eating establishment is expected to bring additional revenue to Poteau.

Graves says the company plans to hire at least 50 people. He adds that anyone interested in applying for a job with Boomarang can fill out an application at www. Boomarangdiner.com.

Boomarang Diner is an Oklahoma-born institution. The first one opened 25 years ago in Muskogee by founder Charles Degraffenreid and his sons, Graves said. It has grown now to more than 50 locations, all within the state of Oklahoma. He added that the owner of the Poteau location was the first waitress in the first Boomerang Diner, and has been with the company all that time.

Poteau is a good fit for Boomerang Diner, Graves said. He said the company feels a connection with the people here.

“We are so excited to become a part of the Poteau community. The people of Poteau have all been so welcoming and kind. We feel a kinship with them like we have known them for years.”

Graves said that Boomarang Diner is excited to be opening a new location in Poteau, and said they feel very welcomed by the community here.

People in Poteau are excited about the diner coming to Poteau. Graves said the company has received a lot of positive feedback so far.

“We are just overwhelmed by how many people are saying so many kind things about us. The City of Poteau was kind enough to make a Facebook post about our diner back in January and has had nearly 950 positive reactions and has been shared almost 1,000 times. Just know that we all are just as excited to be here as the community is to have us here,” Graves said.
