WHAT MAKES IT WORK?
The salon on the SX88 is exceptional for all its bright and open space. Here’s how Marty Lowe enhanced those features to create seamless style.

Because the hullside windows extend from sole to ceiling, the salon offers outstanding views. To make the most of them, Lowe selected lowprofile furnishings by Minotti, which complement the modern décor. Low-slung furniture can also make windows appear even taller, thereby expanding the vista. She added floor cushions that can be rearranged for extra seating in a relaxed space that lends itself to conversation.

Settees are covered in slipcovers made of linen with some polyester for longer wear. “Polyester is a great material because it makes life a lot easier, but you have to work to find something that feels natural,” says Lowe. “The covers have zippers, so if you spill red wine on one, you can replace it rather than buy a new settee. You rarely see them on a boat this size, but they make so much sense.”

For many yachtsmen, sharing meals with family and friends is a big part of the cruising experience. With that in mind, Lowe created spaces throughout the boat for what she calls “dining events.” One of them is here in the salon. “I think of this as a nice place for two people to enjoy breakfast together, and there are swiveling chairs so you can easily turn to look at the sea around you.”

“My vision for the boat’s design began at the central staircase that leads up to the bridge and down to the accommodations level,” says Lowe, who has designed many interiors for Sanlorenzo yachts in the Americas. “It inspired the idea of an urban loft on the sea, an open space that connects people with the light and water surrounding them.”

One of the most striking features on this Sanlorenzo is the joinery treatment. “We cut the wood into a grid pattern with a network of vertical and horizontal lines inspired by a Mondrian painting,” says Lowe. For a modern touch, the panels were covered with glossy, white lacquer, which also protects the wood from the sun. “I like the treatment because no two bulkheads are the same. Each is a work of art.”
