ARCADIA » Life Is Good stamped himself as a strong Kentucky Derby contender by winning the San Felipe Stakes in a runaway, and Idol came charging home fast to win the 84th running of the Big ‘Cap on a big afternoon of stakes action Saturday at Santa Anita Park.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Life Is Good won by eight lengths while running the 11⁄16 miles in a swift 1:42.18 over a main track that has not been producing fast times. Baffert is looking for his record seventh Kentucky Derby victory.

Jockey Joel Rosario scored his third consecutive Santa Anita Handicap victory aboard Idol, while the colt gave 59-year-old trainer Richard Baltas his first Big ‘Cap win. Idol closed strongly on the far outside to get up and beat Express Train by a halflength in the final yards.
