Laws should be enforced no matter what officials think of them

Even though opinions of capital punishment have had some declining support in recent years, it is still a legal penalty regardless of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s 2019 moratorium on executions in the state. However, any candidate running for a judicial office should be given the litmus test on the subject. In my opinion, there are some extremely heinous murder crimes, among others, that are a considerat­ion for the death penalty. — Susan Davis, Tustin
