Readers respond to Question of the Week: Is overturning Roe v. Wade the right decision?

Court's ruling was the appropriate decision

I believe that there should be limits to abortion, perhaps the banning of procedures after the first trimester except regarding the health of the mother.

Highly appropriate that the decisions concerning abortion should now be made by the 50 states' elected representatives who answer to their constituents.

There should be rare occasions when aborting a baby in the womb is called for so long as men and women are using contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancies (excluding rape and incest).

Personally, I did not engage in premarital sex and had no difficulties preventing a pregnancy until my husband and I were completely ready to be parents. — Jacqueline Zuanich-Ferrell, Manhattan Beach

Yes, the justices ruled correctly, sending abortion issues back to the states

Prior to 1973 and for some 200 years, abortion issues were handled by the states, per Wikipedia. Since abortion rights were not part of the Constitution, the Supreme Court in 1973 had no authority to place into law Roe v. Wade without an amendment to the Constitution.

So, yes, the justices of today's Supreme Court, because they are sworn to uphold the Constitution, were justified in returning abortion issues to the states. — Martha Morrissy, Downey

Yes, the court made the right decision to overturn in the Roe v. Wade case

Overturning Roe was absolutely the right decision.

It is a great victory for our U.S. Constitution.

The court doesn't make laws; it interprets laws based on constitutional facts.

The current court corrected a bad decision that never should've happened and has resulted in the killing of about 64 million unborn people by recognizing that the former court had no right to enshrine abortion as a federal right.

The jurisdiction now goes to the people of individual states who will decide whether a living human being inside a pregnant mother will be protected and given the fundamental right to live. — Adrienne Anderson, Long Beach
