Chance of light showers, thunderstorms, before temperatures warm

- By Caitlin Antonios cantonios@scng.com

Monsoonal moisture increased the chance of rain and thunderstorms Thursday evening, but warmer temperatures are expected through the weekend before more possible showers next week, forecasters said.

The moisture coming from the east was expected to hit the mountains, deserts, and inland valleys Thursday evening, possibly continuing overnight.

The best chance of showers was Thursday evening in San Bernardino County.

A flood watch advisory was active until 10 p.m. Thursday for the Coachella Valley, Riverside County mountains, San Bernardino Mountains and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.

In Orange County, the patchy coastal clouds and fog will keep things feeling muggy today, but will decrease through the day and into Saturday which will feel slightly warmer as the humidity decreases, National Weather Service meteorologist Miguel Miller said.

The coastal cities will still see temperatures about ten degrees cooler than inland areas which are expected to be in the upper 80s and possibly low 90s.

A high risk of rip currents and a surf of three to five feet is also expected today at the beaches.

Some shower and thunderstorms in L.A. County was expected Thursday night, but more likely over the eastern mountains and over the Antelope Valley, forecasters said.

Today has the potential for showers as well, but much less likely and similar to other areas.

L.A. County can expect a warming trend on Saturday and Sunday.

Tempertures are expected in the coastal valleys in the low 100s and mid to high 80s across the inland coastal plain.

Monsoonal moisture may return next week with more showers.
