Former USC, Pitt quarterback Slovis is transferring to BYU
Quarterback Kedon Slovis is transferring from Pittsburgh to BYU, he announced Saturday on social media.
Slovis, who had transferred from USC to Pitt, has one year of eligibility remaining. He will compete for the starting job at BYU in its first season in the Big 12 Conference, which the Cougars join after playing as an independent since the 2011 season.
Slovis struggled in his only season with the Panthers. He completed just 59% of his passes with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions, his numbers dipping in the second half of the season as Pitt became a more run-first team.
“I will always be grateful for Coach (Pat) Narduzzi and the time I got to spend with all of my teammates at the University of Pittsburgh,” Slovis wrote in a tweet showing him pictured in a BYU uniform. “I'm excited for this new chapter and can't wait to get to work.”
Pitt (8-4) takes on No. 18 UCLA (9-3) in the Sun Bowl on Friday. Narduzzi has not said whether senior quarterback Nick Patti or freshman Nate Yarnell will start.
Over three seasons at USC, Slovis passed for 7,576 yards and 58 touchdowns in 27 games (26 starts).
In 2019, he set a Trojans freshman record with 3,502 passing yards and threw for 30 touchdowns. He also set a USC single-game mark with 515 passing yards against UCLA, en route to being named Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
Frank signs new deal as Brentford coach
Thomas Frank is looking to create “more magic
moments” as head coach of Brentford after signing a new long-term contract that will keep him at the Premier League club until 2027.
The 49-year-old Dane was appointed in 2018 and guided the club into the top flight for the first time in its history in 2020-21, ultimately finishing 13th in that campaign.
Brentford is 10th and will return to Premier League action against Tottenham on Monday bolstered by a 2-1 win over reigning champions Manchester City before the World Cup break.
“Being a head coach at a club is like a relationship; there are highs and lows,” Frank said on Saturday. “The warmth, support and kindness every time I meet a Bees fan has been amazing and it gives me extra energy to continue the work going forward.
“We attacked the Premier League in the first season and we're attacking it in our second season. I'm looking forward
to hopefully continuing our progress and creating more magic moments together.”
• George Cohen, a defender who played on England's World Cup-winning team in 1966, has died. He was 83.
Cohen made 37 appearances for his national team as a right back.
He played his entire club career for Fulham, where he made 459 appearances between 1956 and 1969. He retired from playing at 29 after a serious knee injury.
Cohen was the vice-captain for England when the team beat West Germany 4-2 in the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

He had 36 goals and 60 assists in 194 games over all competitions, helping NYC win the 2021 MLS title.
Morales, 35, played for Racing from 200507, went to Moscow, then was loaned back. He spent 2009-11 at Vélez Sársfield and went to Italy with Atalanta from 2011-15, then to Mexico's León from 2016-17.

Casino giant Caesars Entertainment is offering what may be the most extravagant guest package for next year's highly anticipated Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix at a whopping $5 million.
The luxury “Emperor Package” includes a fivenight stay at the Nobu Sky Villa at Caesars Palace during race week with numerous amenities, access to a personal driver and RollsRoyce and two tickets to an Adele concert.
The experience also grants VIP access to a 4,700-square-foot terrace overlooking the Strip.
The race in Vegas is expected to be the most expensive sporting event on Formula One's agenda next year. The price starts at $500 for a three-day general admission pass. Those seats were only added after fans complained that hotels planned to purchase massive ticket blocks and repackage them into entertainment experiences ranging from $100,000 to $1 million.
Ahead of tickets first going on sale in November, seats in the grandstands started at $2,500.
F1, owned by U.S.-based Liberty Media, will be a firsttime promoter for the Nov. 18 night race that will use famous Vegas landmarks and rush down the Strip.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said that “in terms of price positioning we are going to be on the top side because this is Las Vegas and that is the nature of the customer coming to Las Vegas.”
