A New(ish) Way to Hydrate Your Skin
“Slugging” is when beauty influencers slather their faces with petroleum jelly to trap moisture. It’s mainly the term that’s buzzy (the slimy face mask resembles what a slug leaves behind), and it can indeed leave your skin dewy. However, you need only a very thin layer, and it’s best for people with very dry skin, says Chloe Savvides, a licensed master aesthetician at Paviol Dermatology. Otherwise, stick with a daily moisturizer containing ceramides and hyaluronic acid, says Debra Jaliman, M.D., an assistant professor of dermatology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
