Boardwalk
Make this stunning quilt to accent your sofa or bed. The white sashing gives it a soft but appealing frame for the cool blue fabrics.
Make as is or try a different-color sashing.
CUTTING
From medium blue batik:
• Cut 2 (31/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 16 (31/2") A squares and 9 (2") I squares. • Cut 6 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips.
From assorted light blue & aqua batiks:
• Cut 32 matching pairs of 1 D rectangle 23/4" x 31/2" and 1 F rectangle 31/2" x 53/4".
From assorted light green batiks:
• Cut 32 matching pairs of 1 E rectangle 23/4" x 31/2" and 1 G rectangle 31/2" x 53/4".
From white solid:
• Cut 29 (2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut 23 strips into 24 (2" x 121/2") H strips, 32 (2" x 61/2") C rectangles and 96 (2" x 31/2") B rectangles; set aside remaining 6 strips for J/K borders.
COMPLETING THE BLOCKS
1. To complete one Boardwalk block, select one A square, six B rectangles, two C rectangles and two pairs each matching E and G, and D and F rectangles. 2. Sew a B rectangle to opposite sides of A and add C to the top and bottom to complete the center unit as shown in Figure 1; press.

3. Sew a B rectangle between one each D and E rectangle to make a side strip as shown in Figure 2; press. Repeat to make a second side strip.

4. Sew a side strip to the B sides of the center unit to make the center row as shown in Figure 3; press.
5. Sew a B rectangle between an F and G rectangle to make the top row as shown in Figure 4; press. Repeat to make the bottom row.

6. Sew the top and bottom rows to the center row as shown in Figure 5, matching F and D pieces and E and G pieces to complete one Boardwalk block; press. 7. Repeat steps 1–6 to complete a total of 16 Boardwalk blocks.
