Ready for the Beach Tote
If you choose to make this great tote, you may also want to make the matching beach quilt on page 10. They both use the same patterns.
Get ready for the beach.
MATERIALS
• 3/8 yard pink tonal
• 3/4 yard white tonal
• 11/ 8 yards white flower print
• 13/ 8 yards aqua check
• Thread
• Template material
• 3 yards lightweight fusible
interfacing • 2 yards 2-sided fusible foam*
• 3/4 yard 15"-wide lightweight fusible web*
• Basic sewing tools and supplies
*Flex-Foam™ 2-sided fusible stablizer and lightweight Wonder-Under® fusible web from Pellon used to make sample.

CUTTING
Prepare templates for appliqué pieces using patterns given on pages 13 and 15. Cut pieces for fusible appliqué as directed on patterns and referring to Raw-Edge Fusible Appliqué on page 14. Note: Trace one flip-flop base piece then for the second piece reverse the template to make right and left base pieces; repeat with the thong piece. A matching set is one Flip-Flop motif. From pink tonal:
• Cut 3 (11/4" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 4 each 11/4" x 101/2" B strips and 11/4" x 12" C strips.
• Cut 1 (13/4" x 391/2") K strip. From white tonal:
• Cut 1 (101/2" by fabric width) strip.
Subcut strip into 2 (101/2") A squares.
• Cut 1 (12" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 2 (12") L block lining
squares. From white flower print:
• Cut 3 (21/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 2 each 21/2" x 20" E top
strips and 21/2" x 25" J handle strips.
• Cut 1 (41/2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 1 (41/2" x 121/2") F outer
pocket rectangle.
• Cut 1 (20" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 2 (20") H lining squares. From aqua check:
• Cut 1 (18" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 2 (18" x 20") D rectangles.
• Cut 1 (17" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 2 (17" x 20") G inner pocket rectangles.
• Cut 2 (21/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips to make 2 (21/2" x 25") I handle strips.
