red or­na­ment and dark gray bird prints • 61/2" x 40" strip each red/white, light

gray and dark gray prints • 1 fat quar­ter white print • 5/ 8 yard dark red tonal • Back­ing to size • Bat­ting to size • Thread • Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies


From white mistle­toe print strip: • Cut 4 (41/2") D squares. From red or­na­ment print strip: • Cut 4 (41/2") I squares. From dark gray bird print strip: • Cut 1 (41/2" x 121/2") J rec­tan­gle. From red/white print strip: • Cut 4 each 21/2" x 61/2" A2 and 21/2" x 41/2"

B2 rec­tan­gles. From light gray print strip: • Cut 4 each 21/2" x 61/2" F1 and 21/2" x 41/2"

G1 rec­tan­gles, and 4 (27/ 8") H squares. From dark gray print strip: • Cut 4 each 21/2" x 61/2" F2 and 21/2" x 41/2"

G2 rec­tan­gles. From white print: • Cut 1 (121/2" x 20") strip. Sub­cut strip into 2 each 21/2" x 121/2" K strips and 21/2" x 81/2" L strips, and 8 (27/ 8") E squares. From dark red tonal: • Cut 1 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 4 (21/2" x 61/2")

A1 rec­tan­gles. • Cut 1 (27/ by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 4 (27/ C squares

and 4 (21/2" x 41/2") B1 rec­tan­gles. • Cut 4 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips.


1. Draw a di­ag­o­nal line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each E square.

2. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 1, place an E square right sides to­gether with a C square and stitch 1/4" on each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press open to make two C-E units. Re­peat to make a to­tal of eight C-E units. 3. Re­peat step 2 with E and H squares to make eight E-H units as shown in Fig­ure 2.

4. To com­plete one Red Show­case block, se­lect one each A1, B1, A2 and B2 rec­tan­gle and D square, and two C-E units.

5. Sew B1 to one side and B2 to the op­po­site side of D to com­plete the cen­ter unit as shown in Fig­ure 3; press.

6. Sew a C-E unit to one end of the A1 and A2 rec­tan­gles with one C side of the C-E unit ad­ja­cent to the A pieces to make A1 and A2 units as shown in Fig­ure 4; press.

7. Sew the A1 and A2 units to the cen­ter unit re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 5 to com­plete one Red Show­case block; press.

8. Re­peat steps 4–7 to com­plete a to­tal of four Red Show­case blocks.

9. Re­peat steps 5–7 with one each F1, G1, F2 and G2 rec­tan­gle and I square, and two E-H units to com­plete one Gray Show­case block re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 6. 10. Re­peat step 9 to com­plete a to­tal of four Gray Show­case blocks.


1. Sew a K strip to op­po­site long sides of J and add L to the short ends to com­plete the Cen­ter block re­fer­ring to the block draw­ing; press.


Re­fer to the As­sem­bly Di­a­gram as needed for com­plet­ing the run­ner.

1. Join one Gray Show­case block with one Red Show­case block to make a block unit; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond block unit.

2. Join the two block units to make an end unit; press.

3. Re­peat steps 1 and 2 to make a sec­ond end unit.

4. Join the two end units with the Cen­ter block to com­plete the run­ner top; press.

5. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94. 6. Quilt as de­sired. 7. Bind edges re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94 to fin­ish.
