*Stone­henge fab­ric col­lec­tion from North­cott used to make sam­ple.

CUT­TING From cream tonal:

• Cut 7 (27/ 8" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 88 (27/ 8") C squares. • Cut 2 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 32 (21/2") G squares.

From black/brown mot­tled:

• Cut 2 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 32 (21/2") I squares. • Cut 7 (27/ 8" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 82 (27/ 8") J squares and 4 (21/2") I squares (to to­tal 36 I squares).

From cream/gray mot­tled:

• Cut 6 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 96 (21/2") D squares. • Cut 5 (27/ 8" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 60 (27/ 8") E squares.

From gray/brown/cream mot­tled:

• Cut 1 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 16 (21/2") A squares. • Cut 3 (27/ 8" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 32 (27/ 8") B squares. • Cut 6 (31/2" by fab­ric width) M/N strips. From black tonal: • Cut 10 (27/ 8" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 118 (27/ 8") F squares. • Cut 1 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strip.

Sub­cut strip into 16 (21/2") H squares. • Cut 5 (2" by fab­ric width) K/L strips. • Cut 6 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips.

COM­PLET­ING THE HALF- SQUARE TRI­AN­GLE UNITS

1. Draw a di­ag­o­nal line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each C and E square and 42 F squares. 2. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 1, place a C square right sides to­gether with B square and stitch 1/4" on each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press open with seam to­ward B to com­plete two B-C units. Re­peat to com­plete a to­tal of 32 B-C units. 3. Re­peat step 2 with B and marked F squares to make 32 B-F units; with C and un­marked F squares to make 72 C-F units; with C and J to make 72 C-J units; with E and un­marked F squares to make 80 E-F units; with E and J to make 40 E-J units; and with marked F squares and J to make 52 F-J units re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 2. Press seams to­ward darker fab­ric.

COM­PLET­ING THE STAR BLOCKS

1. Se­lect one I and four D squares, one F-J unit, two each C-F, C-J and E-J units, and four E-F units.

2. Ar­range and join the units and squares in four rows of four squares/units each re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 3; press ad­join­ing rows in op­po­site direc­tions. 3. Join the rows to com­plete one block quar­ter as shown in Fig­ure 4; press.

4. Re­peat steps 1–3 to make a to­tal of 20 block quar­ters.

5. To com­plete one Star block, se­lect four block quar­ters. Join two block quar­ters to make a row as shown in Fig­ure 5; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond row. 6. Join the rows to com­plete one Star block as shown in Fig­ure 6; press. 7. Re­peat steps 5 and 6 to com­plete a to­tal of five Star blocks.

COM­PLET­ING THE FRAME BLOCKS

1. Se­lect one each A, D, H and I square, two G squares, and two each B-C, B-F, C-F, C-J and F-J units.

2. Ar­range and join the units and squares in four rows of four squares/units each re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 7; press ad­join­ing rows in op­po­site direc­tions.

3. Join the rows to com­plete one block quar­ter as shown in Fig­ure 8; press.

4. Re­peat steps 1–3 to make a to­tal of 16 block quar­ters.

5. To com­plete one Frame block, se­lect four block quar­ters. Join two block quar­ters to make a row as shown in Fig­ure 9; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond row. 6. Join the rows to com­plete one Frame block as shown in Fig­ure 10; press. 7. Re­peat steps 5 and 6 to com­plete a to­tal of four Frame blocks.

COM­PLET­ING THE QUILT

Re­fer to the Assem­bly Diagram for con­struc­tion steps.

1. Ar­range and join one Frame block and two Star blocks to make the top row; press. Re­peat to make the bot­tom row.

2. Ar­range and join one Star block and two Frame blocks to make the cen­ter row; press.

3. Sew the cen­ter row be­tween the top and bot­tom rows to com­plete the pieced cen­ter; press.

4. Join the K/L strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Sub­cut strip into two each 2" x 481/2" K strips and 2" x 511/2" L strips.

5. Sew K strips to op­po­site sides and L strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter; press.

6. Join the M/N strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Sub­cut strip into two each 31/2" x 511/2" M strips and 31/2" x 571/2" N strips.

7. Sew M strips to op­po­site sides and N strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter to com­plete the quilt top; press.

8. Create a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 102. 9. Quilt as de­sired.

10. Bind edges re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 102 to fin­ish.
