It’s Not Too Late!
Make it in time for the holidays!
MATERIALS
• 24 (21/2" x 40") precut holiday
print strips* • 2 yards cream solid* • Backing to size • Batting to size • Thread • Basic sewing tools and supplies
*Winter Village fabric collection from Moda used to make sample.
CUTTING From precut holiday print strips:
• Subcut each of 18 strips into 6 (21/2") A squares and 3 (21/2" x 61/2") C rectangles. • Trim remaining 6 strips to 21/4" x 40" strips. Subcut strips into 12 (21/4" x 20") binding strips.
From cream solid:
• Cut 14 (21/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 106 (21/2" x 41/2")
B rectangles. • Cut 6 (31/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut 1 strip into 6 (31/2" x 61/2") D rectangles. Set aside remaining strips for E borders.
COMPLETING THE BLOCKS
1. To complete one Ladder block, select two matching A squares, two B rectangles and one C rectangle to match A.
2. Sew A to one end of B to make an A-B unit as shown in Figure 1; press. Repeat to make a second unit. 3. Join the two A-B units with C to complete one Ladder block as shown in Figure 2; press. 4. Repeat steps 1–3 to complete a total of 53 Ladder blocks. Note: Set aside remaining A and C pieces for another project.

COMPLETING THE QUILT
Refer to the Assembly Diagram for construction steps.
1. Arrange and join eight Ladder blocks to make a vertical X row; press. Repeat to make a total of four X rows.
2. Arrange and join seven Ladder blocks and add a D rectangle to each end to make a vertical Y row; press. Repeat to make a total of three Y rows.
3. Join the X and Y rows alternately, starting with an X row, to complete the pieced center; press.
4. Join the E strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut strip into four 31/2" x 481/2" E strips.
5. Sew an E strip to opposite long sides and to the top and bottom of the pieced center to complete the pieced top; press.
6. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 102. 7. Quilt as desired. 8. Bind edges referring to Quilting Basics on page 102 to finish.
