MA­TE­RI­ALS

• 40 pre­cut 5" squares as­sorted prints

and tonals • 5/ 8 yard blue tonal • 21/ 8 yards white solid • Back­ing to size • Bat­ting to size • Thread • Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies

CUT­TING

From pre­cut 5" squares: • Set aside 34 squares for J. • Cut each of the 6 re­main­ing squares into 4 (21/2") K squares to to­tal 24 K squares. Dis­card 2 of these squares. From blue tonal: • Cut 6 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips. From white solid: • Cut 5 (5" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 4 each 5" x 203/4" A,

5" x 14" B and 5" x 71/4" C strips. • Cut 12 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strips. Set aside 10 strips for D/E. Sub­cut re­main­ing 2 strips into 4 (21/2" x 41/2") F rec­tan­gles and 20 (21/2") G squares. • Cut 3 (33/4" by fab­ric width) H strips. • Cut 3 (13/4" by fab­ric width) I strips.

COM­PLET­ING THE QUILT

Re­fer to the As­sem­bly Di­a­gram as needed for con­struc­tion steps. 1. Sew an A strip to op­po­site sides of a J square to make an A-J strip; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond strip. 2. Join four J squares with two B strips to make a B-J strip; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond strip. 3. Join seven J squares with two C strips to make a C-J strip; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond strip. 4. Join 10 J squares to make the cen­ter strip; press. 5. Join the D/E strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Sub­cut strip into six 21/2" x 451/2" D strips and two 21/2" x 501/2" E strips. 6. Join the D strips with the A-J, B-J and C-J strips and the cen­ter strip to com­plete the pieced cen­ter; press. 7. Join the H strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Sub­cut the strip into two 33/4" x 451/2" H strips.

8. Sew the H strips to op­po­site sides of the pieced cen­ter; press.

9. Join the I strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Sub­cut strip into two 13/4" x 501/2" I strips.

10. Sew the I strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter; press.

11. Join 10 G squares with 11 K squares and add an F rec­tan­gle to each end to make a pieced strip; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond strip.

12. Sew the pieced strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter; press.

13. Sew the E strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter to com­plete the quilt top.

14. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94. 15. Quilt as de­sired. 16. Bind edges re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94 to fin­ish.
