• 1 (24" x 42") panel* • 2 yards black* • 5/ 8 yard red plaid* • 3/4 yard owl print* • 1 yard fox print* • Backing to size* • Batting to size • Basic sewing tools and supplies

PROJECT NOTES

Read all instructio­ns before beginning this project.

Stitch right sides together using a 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise specified.

Materials and cutting lists assume 40" of usable fabric width. WOF – width of fabric HST – half-square triangle QST – quarter-square triangle

CUTTING

From black cut: • 3 (21/2" x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

2 (21/2" x 421/2") A strips • 2 (21/2" x 281/2") B strips • 4 (21/2") D squares • 3 (21/2" x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

2 (21/2" x 501/2") F strips • 2 (21/2" x 361/2") G strips • 4 (21/2" x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

2 (21/2" x 621/2") K strips • 3 (21/2" x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

2 (21/2" x 441/2") M strips • 7 (21/2" x WOF) binding strips From red plaid cut: • 3 (21/2" x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

2 (21/2" x 461/2") C strips • 2 (21/2" x 281/2") E strips • 8 (41/2") I squares • 4 (21/2") L squares From owl print cut: • 3 (41/2" x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

2 (41/2" x 541/2") H strips • 2 (41/2" x 361/2") J strips From fox print cut: • 6 (41/2" x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into: 2 (41/2" x 661/2") N and 2 (41/2" x 481/2")

O strips

COMPLETING THE QUILT

Refer to the Assembly Diagram for steps 2–11. Press after each border addition. 1. Measure and trim panel to make sides the same length and top and bottom the same width.

2. Stitch A strips to sides of trimmed panel and B strips to top and bottom. 3. Stitch C strips to sides of quilt. 4. Stitch D squares to both ends of each E strip. Stitch D/E strips to top and bottom of quilt.

5. Stitch F strips to sides and G strips to top and bottom of quilt. 6. Stitch H strips to sides of quilt. 7. Stitch I squares to both ends of each J strip. Stitch I/J strips to top and bottom of quilt. 8. Stitch K strips to sides of quilt. 9. Stitch L squares to both ends of each M strip. Stitch L/M strips to top and bottom of quilt. 10. Stitch N strips to sides of quilt. 11. Stitch I squares to both ends of each O strip. Stitch I/O strips to top and bottom of quilt.
