Feline Feast

MATERIALS
The following yardage makes one runner and two place mats: • 1 Cat- I-Tude panel, red* • 1/2 yard red snowflake print* • 3/ 8 yard purple snowflake print* • 5/ 8 yard mint snowflake print* • 1/2 yard white paisley swirl* • 1 yard black holiday lights* • Backing to size • Batting to size • Basic sewing tools and supplies

PROJECT NOTES
Read all instructions before beginning this project.
Stitch right sides together using a ¼" seam allowance unless otherwise specified.
Materials and cutting lists assume 40" of usable fabric width for yardage. WOF – width of fabric HST – half-square triangle QST – quarter-square triangle
CUTTING
From Cat-I-Tude panel fussy-cut: • 5 (91/2") squares with a cat motif centered From red snowflake print cut: • 10 (2" x 91/2") A strips • 10 (2" x 121/2") B strips From purple snowflake print cut: • 16 (37/ 8") C squares then cut once
diagonally From mint snowflake print cut: • 32 (31/2") D squares • 32 (23/ 8") E squares then cut once
diagonally From white paisley swirl cut: • 16 (31/2" x 61/2") F rectangles From black holiday lights cut: • 32 (2") G squares • 12 (31/2") H squares • 8 (21/4" x WOF) binding strips
COMPLETING THE BLOCKS
1. Sew A strips to opposite sides of a 9½" cat square as shown in Figure 1. Press toward the red snowflake print strips. Sew B strips to the remaining sides to complete the block. Make five.
These Christmas cats are fun and active, and they make perfect holiday decor. This design is quick, easy and unusual, as it allows the cats to be the focal point. —Ann Lauer
2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of two D squares. Place a marked square right sides together on one end of an F rectangle. Sew on the drawn line, trim seam allowance to 1/4" and press the triangle open. Repeat with remaining square as shown in Figure 2 to make one 31/2" x 61/2" flying geese unit. Make 16.
3. Sew two E triangles to a G square as shown in Figure 3, making sure the triangle points overlap 1/4" (for seam allowance). Stitch a C triangle to the diagonal edge of the unit. Press seam toward the purple triangle. Trim unit to 31/2" x 31/2". Make 32.
4. Noting orientation and placement, sew a flying geese unit from step 2 between two units from step 3 as shown in Figure 4. Press seams open. Make 16 units.
COMPLETING THE PLACE MATS
1. Referring to the Place Mat Placement Diagram, join two units from step 4 of Completing the Blocks to opposite sides of a step 1 unit. Press seams toward the B strips. The place mat should measure 121/2" x 181/2".
2. Using a straightedge ruler and leaving a 1/4" seam allowance, trim each corner as shown in Figure 5. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make second place mat. 3. Layer, quilt as desired and bind referring to Quilting Basics.
COMPLETING THE TABLE RUNNER
1. Repeat step 1 of Completing the Place Mats to make three units as shown in Figure 6.
2. Stitch an H square to each end of the remaining units from step 4 of Completing the Blocks as shown in Figure 7. Press seams toward the H. Make six.
3. Sew a unit from step 2 to the top and bottom of a unit from step 1 as shown in Figure 8. Press. Trim the block to 181/2" x 181/2". Make three Feline Runner blocks.
4. Sew the 3 blocks together as shown in the Assembly Diagram to complete the 541/2" x 181/2" runner.
5. Layer, quilt as desired and bind referring to Quilting Basics.
