• 3/4 yard light blue* • 3/4 yard medium blue* • 1 yard dark blue* • 31/2 yards off-white* • Backing to size • Batting to size* • Thread* • Basic sewing tools and supplies

PROJECT NOTES

Read all instructio­ns before beginning this project.

Stitch right sides together using a 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise specified.

Materials and cutting lists assume 40" of usable fabric width. WOF – width of fabric HST – half-square triangle QST – quarter-square triangle

CUTTING

From light blue cut: • 16 (11/2" x 31/2") E rectangles • 16 (11/2" x 41/2") F rectangles • 4 (51/4") G squares then cut

twice diagonally • 16 (27/ 8") H squares then cut

once diagonally From medium blue cut: • 20 (11/2" x 31/2") E rectangles • 20 (11/2" x 41/2") F rectangles • 5 (51/4") G squares then cut

twice diagonally • 20 (27/ 8") H squares then cut

once diagonally From dark blue cut: • 4 (41/2") I squares • 16 (27/ 8") J squares then cut

once diagonally • 7 (21/2" x WOF) binding strips From off-white cut: • 25 (41/2") A squares • 36 (31/2") B squares • 13 (51/4") C squares then cut

twice diagonally • 36 (27/ 8") D squares then cut

once diagonally • 16 (21/2" x 41/2") K rectangles • 13 (21/2" x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into: 18 (21/2" x 121/2" L sashing strips 2 (21/2" x 161/2") M sashing strips 2 (21/2" x 441/2") N sashing strips 2 (21/2" x 721/2") O sashing strips • 2 (181/4") P squares then cut

twice diagonally • 2 (93/ 8") Q squares then cut

once diagonally

COMPLETING THE BLOCKS Block A

1. To make one Block A, select one A square, four B squares, four C triangles, eight D triangles and, from the same light blue or medium blue, four E rectangles, four F rectangles, four G triangles and eight H triangles.

2. Stitch one E rectangle to one side of one B square as shown in Figure 1. Press. Stitch one F rectangle to an adjacent side. Press. Make four.

3. Stitch one H triangle to one short side of one C triangle as shown in Figure 2. Press. Stitch one H triangle to the opposite short side. Press. Make four.

4. Stitch one D triangle to one short side of one G triangle as shown in Figure 3. Press. Stitch one D triangle to the opposite short side. Press. Make four.

5. Arrange and stitch one C-H unit to one D-G unit as shown in Figure 4. Press. Make four.

6. Referring to either Block A diagram, arrange and join four B-E-F units, four C-H/D-G units and one A square into three rows; sew rows together to complete one Block A. Press.

7. Repeat steps 1–6 to make a total of nine block A's, five medium blue and four light blue. Block B

1. Stitch one J triangle to one short side of one C triangle as shown in Figure 5. Stitch one J triangle to the opposite short side. Press. Make 16.

2. Sew one K rectangle to one long side of a C-J unit as shown in Figure 6. Press. Make 16.

3. Arrange and sew four A squares, one I square and four C-J-K units into three rows. Sew rows together to complete one Block B. Press. Make four.

COMPLETING THE QUILT

1. Referring to the Assembly Diagram and project photo, arrange and sew Blocks A and B, L strips, P setting triangles and Q corner triangles into rows. Press.

2. Arrange and sew M, N and O sashes diagonally between rows to complete the quilt top. Press. Trim ends of M, N and O even with the quilt top.

3. Layer, quilt as desired and bind referring to Quilting Basics.
