• 11/4 yards cream* • 11/ 8 yards gray snowflake* • 11/2 yards gray* • 11/ 8 yards gray floral* • Backing to size • Batting to size* • Basic sewing tools and supplies *Fleur de Noel fabrics by French General for Moda; Warm & Natural cotton batting from The Warm Company used to make sample.

Stitch right sides together using a ¼" seam allowance unless otherwise specified.

Materials and cutting lists assume 40" of usable fabric width for yardage. WOF – width of fabric HST – half-square triangle QST – quarter-square triangle

CUTTING

From cream cut: • 7 (31/4'') A squares • 28 (11/2'' x 21/2'') B rectangles • 28 (11/2'' x 41/2'') C rectangles • 28 (11/2'' x 61/2'') D rectangles • 52 (21/2") E squares • 7 (11/2'' x WOF) F strips—set aside for

strip piecing From gray snowflake cut: • 7 (31/4'') G squares • 28 (11/2'' x 41/2'') H rectangles • 28 (11/2'' x 61/2'') I rectangles • 28 (11/2'' x 81/2'') J rectangles From gray cut: • 6 (21/2'' x WOF) strips for binding • 4 (21/2'' x WOF) strips, stitch short ends to short ends, then subcut into:

COMPLETING BLOCK A

1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all the A squares. Place an A square on a G square, right sides together, as shown in Figure 1. Stitch 1/4'' on each side of the drawn line. Cut apart on the drawn line. Open and press. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong of one A-G unit as shown. Place the marked square, right sides together and opposite fabrics touching, on the other A-G unit. Stitch 1/4'' on each side of the line. Cut apart on the line. Open and press. Repeat to make 14. 2. Stitch one B rectangle to each cream side of A-G unit as shown in Figure 2. Press.

3. Stitch one H rectangle to the top and bottom of a unit from step 2 as shown in Figure 3. Press. 4. Stitch one C rectangle to each side of a unit from step 3 as shown in Figure 4. Press. 5. Stitch one I rectangle to the top and bottom of a unit from step 4 as shown in Figure 5. Press. 6. Stitch one D rectangle to each side of a unit from step 5 as shown in Figure 6. Press.

7. Stitch one J rectangle to the top and bottom of a unit from step 6 as shown in Figure 7. Press. 8. Repeat steps 2–7 to make 14 total of Block A.

COMPLETING BLOCK B

1. Stitch an F strip, lengthwise, to an L strip as shown in Figure 8. Press. Make seven strip sets. From the strip sets, subcut 52 (21/2'' x 41/2'') segments as shown.

2. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong square, right sides together, on the right end (with the cream fabric to the top) of

a step 1 segment as shown in Figure 9. Stitch on the drawn line. Trim, open and press as shown.

3. Place a K square, right sides together, on the right end of an O rectangle as shown in Figure 10. Stitch on the drawn line. Trim, open and press as shown.

4. Place an E square, right sides together, on the left end of a unit from step 3 as shown in Figure 11. Stitch on the drawn line. Trim, open and press as shown. 5. Stitch a unit from step 2 to the top of a step 4 unit as shown in Figure 12. Press. 6. Repeat steps 2–5 to make a total of 52 step 5 units.

7. Arrange four step 5 units as shown in Figure 13. Stitch the units in each row together. Press. Stitch the rows together. Press.

8. Repeat steps 2–6 to make 13 total of Block B.

COMPLETING THE QUILT

1. Referring to the Assembly Diagram, arrange blocks into three rows of nine blocks each. To achieve the design as shown, alternate the Block A and Block B in each row. Stitch blocks together in rows. Press. Stitch rows together to complete the quilt center. Press.

2. Stitch an M strip to each short side of the quilt center. Press. Stitch an N strip to the opposite long sides. Press.

3. Stitch one Q strip to each short end of the quilt center. Press.

4. Layer, quilt as desired and bind referring to Quilting Basics.
