MATERIALS

• 11/4 yards white • 3/4 yard light print • 23/4 yards dark gray • 23/ 8 yards medium gray • Backing to size • Batting to size • Basic sewing tools and supplies

PROJECT NOTES

Read all instructio­ns before beginning this project.

Stitch right sides together using a ¼" seam allowance unless otherwise specified.

Materials and cutting lists assume 40" of usable fabric width. WOF – width of fabric HST – half-square triangle QST – quarter-square triangle

CUTTING

From white cut: • 5 (31/2" x WOF) A strips • 11 (2" x WOF) B strips From light print cut: • 18 (31/2") C squares • 7 (2" x WOF) D strips From dark gray cut: • 19 (31/2" x WOF) E strips • 2 (2" x WOF) F strips • 36 (2" x 31/2") G rectangles • 7 (21/4" x WOF) binding strips From medium gray cut: • 9 (61/2" x WOF) H strips • 2 (2" x WOF) I strips • 36 (2" x 31/2") J rectangles

COMPLETING THE BLOCKS

1. To create Block A, stitch one E strip to each side of an A strip as shown in Figure 1. Press. Make five. Subcut into 45 (3½" x 9½") E-A-E segments.

2. Stitch one E strip to one H strip as shown in Figure 2. Press. Make nine. Subcut into 90 (3½" x 9½") E-H segments.

3. Referring to the Block A diagram, stitch an E-H segment to each side of an E-A-E segment as shown to make one Block A. Press. Make 45. 4. To create Block B, stitch one F strip and one B strip together as shown in Figure 3. Press. Make two. Subcut into 36 (2" x 3½") B-F segments.

5. Stitch a B-F segment and a G rectangle together as shown in Figure 4 to make a B-F-G unit. Press. Make 36. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 using B and I strips and J rectangles to make 36 B-I-J units as shown in Figure 5.

7. Stitch one D strip and one B strip together as shown in Figure 6. Make seven. Subcut into 72 (3½" x 3½") B-D segments.

8. Referring to the Block B diagram, arrange two B-F-G units, two B-I-J units, four B-D segments and one C square into three rows. Sew the pieces into rows. Press. Join the rows to make one Block B. Press. Make 18.

COMPLETING THE QUILT

1. Referring to the Assembly Diagram, arrange blocks into nine rows of seven blocks each. Sew blocks into rows and sew rows together to complete the quilt center. Press.

2. Layer, quilt as desired and bind referring to Quilting Basics.
